Default not the timing!

My name us Robert and I am having problems with my chevy Silverado1500 350 5.7 ltr. It cranks and runs and idles fine but I give it gas and it backfires and when I put it in gear it dies automatically. Several of my friends with knowledge of my engine have agreed it hasn't jumped time. Now after checking several things from timing to fuel system, everyone thinks it may be some kind of transmission sensor issue. Please help! My truck has been down for over a month and I need her back!

Welcome to the forum.

You indicated that you checked the timing. What was it?

Backfires can be caused by several things including timing, bad wires, bad distributor cap, bad coil, etc. Since it idles OK and as soon as you try to load it, it backfires, I'm leaning towards something in the ignition system.

Go ahead and put your request for help in the truck section that in2pro mentioned.
