Researching 1070 Impala Convertable VIN
Greetings: Just starting the refurb/rebuild process on my fathers 1970 Impala Convertible. He is long gone, but this car has been in the family since dad bought it in Tucson in 1969. Needs LOTS of work.
Got the #'s off the firewall ST7016467STL105103BDY, but no joy on any info.
Any help out there in cyber land?

The info you supplied is from the car's trim tag which is riveted to the firewall. It de-codes as follows:
ST= Style, 70= model year, 16467 is the Model designation which is 1= Chevrolet Division, 64= V-8 Impala, 67= 2 door convertible. STL= St. Louis assembly plant and 105103 is the sequential number of that body style produced at that plant. You will also find a trim code and a paint code below the numbers you supplied. For example, TR 806 = black vinyl bench seat and 28 A PNT would decode as 28= Fathom Blue body color, A indicates top color and PNT as you probably guessed = paint. Other important info such as the body build date should be near the bottom and will be a two digit number followed by one of five letters, A, B, C, D, E, or F. The number indicates the month the body was built and the letter represents the week of the month, so 05C decodes as the third week of May. Get the book Chevy by the Numbers by Alan L. Good luck with your project!
