The news that Gm and Ford may share transmissions started off okay and then said it was a ten speed tranny. Are these two manuf's bring out bicycles now to get in on the low end of the transportation market. Really folks 6 speeds is all you need to get from stop to go. If you take all the costs that went into developing a monstrosity like that into the number of them to be built you are going to have to double the price of the car just for the tranny option.
If they are going for fuel mileage just put a CVT in them and be done with it. What we need is better engineering into the use of materials that can reduce the weight but not the strength of a structure. This could be used all across the product line instead of just a small portion of it, thus reducing corporate fuel consumption across the board.
