Default 305 Missing at 2000 rpm

I need your help. I have a 73 Nova with a 80 something model 305 engine with electronic ignition. The engine idles great and runs fine until approximately 2000 rpm. I will hold the throttle steady at 2000 rpm and the rpms jumpup15-25 rpms then drop back to 2000 rpm and it does it constantly.

Just to let you know, I just replaced the old quadrajet (it was in bad shape) with an edelbrock 1406 600 cfm with electric choke, runs much better now except for the miss. Ichecked the timing, the timing is 2-3 degrees advance. The spark plugs are in good shape as well.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Update: I advanced the timing to 6 degrees and runs much better but the rpms would jump 10 rpms every once in a while, not as much as before. Again the rpms would jump up not down.

what condition are your plug wires in? i've never actually done this, but have been told you can watch your engine run in a dark place. if your plug wire are less than adequate, you can see the current as your engine is running.

If you suspect bad plug wires, do what grumman suggested, but get a spray bottle with some water in it too. Just lightly mist the wires with the water and if any of them are leaking, you'll see them arcing in the water.
