Circuit should be from battery +, through ignition spring position switch, nuetral switch, starter solenoid on the small S terminal. The other small terminal marked R is for a resistor cut down from full battery to electrnoic ignition coil, if applicable. The kicker on this is the replaced column, that has the saftey switch, and the ignition switch.

No when I pull the wire the starter does not crank.

The ignition switch on the 68 nova is on the dash. But your right. I can't find the safety switch anywhere. Sounds odd huh.
