Default ever have to space a torque converter / older trans newer flexplate?

i put a 65 283 in a 63 nova wagon with the origional trans. it shifts out of first way to fast puting the load on the engine. is there a different offset on older flexplates or transmissions?

why are you wanting to space the converter to correct a shifting problem ?
