1966 Corvair surprise in progress
Hello All,
I’m new to this forum and decided it would be a good place to to be a part of for questions that may come up and just good place to spill the beans somewhere so they don’t ruin the surprise locally and it get the new back to our parents. First I will provide a little history.
Our parents had two Corvairs, One early model 60’s 4Dr (Mom’s) and one Late Model 60’s 2Dr (Dad’s). Both had from teens and twenties and intended on restoring with their children. (Two sons) They sold the early model and decided the late model would be the one to restore. My Brother and I are 6 years apart, so late 90’s I entering High school and my brother about to enter middle school our age combined with time, space, money, and family health issues made it difficult for us and our parents to find the means to it going. 2004 we were discussing getting the ball rolling and we were struck with 3, that is right 3 hurricanes. During one of them a oak tree with a trunk at least half the diameter of the car width was uprooted and crushed our family Corvair. My dad decided to scrap it with the hopes of getting another to restore but, we never have. I think there is a hole in both their hearts for the car both it has been hidden a away and not discussed much. Both my brother and made a pat that one day if we could, we needed to restore a Corvair for them and give it to them, surprise, thank you for everything you’ve done. Brother early 20’s, I mid 20’s, we are at that point.
We found her and are working on getting her here mid January. She’s a barn find, that has already be started. There is minor body work to be done (Paint, ETC>> No wreck damage, no dents (Some rust in the lower quaters where pesty water can hold, expected for a 46 year old car) and 95% of the interior has been done already. She’s fired up regularly and I have the 4 carb system coming with it to replace the two carb currently installed.
OK I feel better now.
I figure I will update post with pictures of our progress.
