Default 1991 Chevy G-20 Automatic over-revving when shifting

Hello,

My 1991 G-20 Van has been having some recurring problems recently.

We have been having some issues with over-revving during shifting out of 1st into 2nd. We have also had some issues with the starter motor, the distributor cap, and the ignition module — all of which we have replaced recently. We got the transmission tuned up and the mechanic said everything looks great.

The shifting problems started when we took the van to a mechanic in Washington Depot, CT to get our rear brakes replaced. We picked up the van, it was driving TERRIBLY, and then we brought it home and it wouldn’t start again so that’s when we replaced the ignition module.

Kept having shifting issues, tuned up the transmission. Drove OK for a while, then wouldn’t start again so had to replace the cap.

Van drove fine again for a while, and is now struggling to shift again.

She’s running OK right now, but we’re worried she could break down anytime. It’s been a gamble lately.

Anyone have any advice? The van has ~150,000 miles on it, engine was replaced in 2007 and now has probably 75,000-80,000 miles on it. I’m the second owner.

I get scared every time someone mentions a trans tune-up.
We have no idea what that included.
You don't say anything about the trans fluid level, Where does that stand?
Can you fill us in as to just what was done with the "Tune Up" on the trans?

Do you know what if anything was added to the trans? Some kind of additive to supposedly correct shifting problems?
Could you supply the trans code on the sticker either on the driver's door or the door pillar?

The transmission fluid level is normal. The problems did not improve nor worsen with the tune-up so something had to have happened before. I don't know what was included in the tune-up either. Going to take it in to see if the solenoid needs to be replaced. We also started to have some electrical problems in the steering column the past couple of days. The blinkers have stopped working properly.
