Question 1995 G20 Rattling Noise when Coasting or Slowing Down.

Hi. My G20 makes a clearly audible rattling/knocking kind of noise (regular intervals of the knocking, frequency depending on vehicle speed), ONLY when it's slowing down or coasting, meaning, whenever the accelerator isn't pushed. This means it can't be a wheel/tyre.
The sound is coming seemingly from below or the rear of the car, not the front.
Preliminary research points at a possible issue with the heat shield or something called LSD (limited slip differential). Other possibilities are that something is wrong with the transmission, driveshaft or drivetrain. I was at a shop but they told me the sound was too unspecific to say anything and it's probably nothing... I wonder - it really rattles quite much.
Someone here got similar experience or advice? Thanks!
