Default 1997 Chevy Tahoe Blown Motor - should I swap?

Just wondering if anyone has any advice for me here. I have a blown 5.7. Not sure what the issue is. Thought it was a bad flexplate but after installing a new one she still sounds like a bag of marbles. The flexplate WAS cracked but there's more going on here. I'm not inclined to rebuild. It's a high km motor and hasn't been treated well from what I can see. My question is, should I put another 350 in or should I do a swap. LS or 5.3 Vortec? I have some money to play with here about $4000 so any input would be much appreciated.

* If I could put something in there that doesn't use the 4L60E that would be nice. Those transmissions have not treated me well in the past.
