Default 1999 Suburban Clunks When Turn Signal is Turned on While Driving

Good morning,

I would really appreciate some help with this growing mystery.

Looking back this may have started with the lights going out in my a/c and heat controls. The next thing was either the problem with the signal light while driving or the dash lights going out, and the latest is the jerking of the vehicle when I turn the fan on while we’re driving.

The signal light and fan problem are better described as a momentary drop in power. This presents the biggest problem when I’m trying to merge into the highway but every time my signal light flashes I lose power for a moment so it really hinders my ability to pick up speed.

It does the seem thing when I turn on the climate control fan but it just doesn’t seem as severe.

As for the instrument lights, it’s the back lighting of the dials that’s the problem. I seem to have warning lights like check engine, high beam notification, abs, seatbelt, and I’m guessing others as they would be needed but I can’t see what speed I’m going at night (and I tend to have a lead foot &#128556.

At one point my husband said he thought it was a short but it’s been like this for many months and he’s not helping me get it fixed. If there are any prayer warriors out there, I would appreciate being added to your list as I am very intimidated at the thought of working on my vehicle.

Thank you for all of your help.

Sincerely,

Cherie

Not being sure of just what kind of help you are seeking, Do you want to know what we think is the possible cause, which you may not have the equipment to pursue?
There is no real substitute for actually being there and checking the vehicle physically.

One thing to consider, if you or hubby don't have the equipment and experience to diagnose these problems correctly, why take chances with your safety?

Thank you for your concern Hanky. To answer your question,1) I would happily take my car to a mechanic if I had the funds to pay for the repair, 2) I had no idea there was a safety issue, and 3) I think my husband could remain safe while fixing the problem but he has been choosing to not help me with this issue for awhile now and I am not only sick of it but I am concerned that the problem is getting worse.

And I’m not completely incapable. Today I successfully changed my distributor cap and now my car is running better. Maybe some people put me on their prayer list per my request 😁

Update on the problem:

I watched this video
on how to find short circuits and, after following the instructions, determined that the battery is the short circuit. None the less I would still appreciate any input if you think this makes sense with the symptoms I’ve described and also as s I really have no idea as to what would be involved in fixing it.

Many thanks in advance 😁

Hey Hanky I’m sorry that I didn’t answer your other question: I am hoping to have help to diagnose the problem.
