RE: 700R4 IN 65 CHEVY ORIGINALLY WITH 3 ON TREE
I just happened to pick up a 350 with a 700R4 tranny yesterday to replace the 3 on the tree in my 69 Camino (Saginaw tranny by the way with the tri-linkage junk to the column)
I anticipate an easy swap as far as that goes. A new floor mounted B&M shifter is simple since the tranny can be shifted via cable instead of linkage. My only foreseeable problem is going to be making a new tranny crossmember and modifying the driveshaft to fit the odd lentgh.

If you can weld or have a welder in your area. The crossmember wont be a problem. as for the drive shaft don't use the old one fron the truck. go to the bone yard and pick up one there. cut it to length and welded then take it to a balancer to have weights added. As far as the shifter go's B&M's are ok but I think I would try one of those paddle shifters that are mounted right on the steering wheel. So you can shift with your thumb and never take your hands off the wheel.
