Default G20 help here?

Hi, I am Dave and need help with a 93 -94 V6 G20, looked for the forum for G20 but nothing, are they known under another name? If in the wrong place perhaps a 'mod' could please move?

So here is the problem, there was a CEL showing but had been for months car drove ok so my friend left it. Last week he read on the net that if he disconnected the positive battery terminal the light would go out, so he did but he also shorted the positive battery terminal to the bodywork, a few sparks but nothing else, the following day after a short uneventful journey he switched off, on the restart he had no speedometer and no automatic shifts, manually shifting 1 and 2 all ok. Gearbox responds to all movements on the shift lever including reverse.

No CEL light, no codes to be picked up, VSS was leaking oil so fitted a new one anyway, had the oil pan off, nice and clean inside, no 'bits' no filings, fitted new filter replaced pan with new gasket, new fluid and called it done.

So, loom, fuses, VSS, inside pan clean, new fluid, all looks good, could the ECM have taken a hit form the spike caused by the short?

Have read that there is a VSS buffer, I assumed this was something that is used to alter the speedometer for different wheel diameters/gear ratio's? I Cannot find the VSS buffer, it could be the removable part I found in the ECM mounted behind the drivers seat?

One diode in the ECM looked a little overheated in comparison to the other, but did not want to remove test in case I damaged a good ECM and created two problems so we would be chasing our tails.

Any thoughts guys and girls?

Thanks in advance

regards

Dave
