Truck Saved my Brother's Life
My brother used to own a 1996 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. It was in good working order, even though it ate through the transmissions every 30,000 miles, and he had a new, bored out 350 engine in it that got maybe 12 mpg. But eh, it's a truck, doesn't matter about the mpg as long as it can pull what it needs to pull right?
He was driving down a road at about 60 mph when he drifted off to the side of the road, overcorrected, and the back end of his truck broke loose. He started to spin, his front hit a stump on the side of the road and caused the back end to lift up and keep going over until the side of his truck hit an embankment. His truck left the ground, did a 1 1/2 roll in the air, landed on it's top, and did another 1 1/2 roll on the ground, eventually landing on its tires.
Now, him going at that speed, and with as much damage as that truck sustained, you would think that he would have some pretty serious injuries, or even have died. But he was able to walk away from the wreck with just a few scratches. A testament to how durable that truck was and how it protected him.
What was even more of a blessing was that he crashed on a road that was just recently clear cut, and there were a lot of stumps and dead wood. When his truck finally stopped rolling, one of the stumps caught on his rear axel, and prevented him from rolling down a hill and into some uncut trees.
So, this is my thank you to Chevrolet for making such an awesome Truck. Too bad that it's totaled.
