1981 Camaro Z28
About the Car:
1981 Camaro Z28
Original 350 CID Engine
Original TH350 Trans
Aftermarket 3:73 rear-end
Light Sandstone Interior (Special Order Interior)
Midnight Blue Metallic Paint
Bronze Tri-Color Stripe Package
1992
The Z28 was rescued by my Dad from a guy named Jerry who had partially disassembled it and never gotten around to putting it back together to make a dragster out of it. Dad found it with the hood off, engine out, a tree growing through the engine bay and hundreds of hail dings and offered him a couple hundred dollars for it.
1994
The chassis and body was reassembled in my back yard and was in good condition for the most part. After paint and lots of interior work to replace the soggy carpet, the car itself was back to slightly-less-than-factory condition.
1995
Engine work still needed to be done, so a friend of my Dads rebuilt it and the transmission with some spare parts. Those spare parts included a moderate cam, high compression machined pistons, and heavy duty rockers and lifters. All-in-all the engine is bored .060 over.
1995-2006
The Z28 was garaged and for the most part forgotten. Dad put it in a couple shows in 2001 and 2002. It won People’s Choice and Top 200 at the Paramount Chevy (Now Chevrolet-Cadillac of Goldsboro). In other shows it did well, but didn’t win any other trophies. She was then garaged again for several more years eclipsed by Dad’s obsession with his new toy, a 1979 CJ7.
2007-2009
I decided to get it out and clean it up in 2007. I cleaned it up, got it running again and started driving it at least once a week. In the latter part of last year, I started showing it and doing cruise-ins around the county until second gear went out. Dad finally said I could have the Camaro. He said he didn’t have enough time to maintain everything, so he left it to me to take care of it.
I bought a few more things to stick on it including a brand new valve covers, new breather and a timing chain cover. I also replaced several miscellaneous interior parts including the brushed aluminum dash and shifter bezels. I bought composite headlights too so I’m not tied down to the old style glass ones.
The following are Mods/Restorations I plan to make:
Headers
Aluminum Intake
Engine Repaint
Underhood Insulation Replacement
Trunk liner
Head unit + dash and rear speakers and a 12” sub
Original Z28 Driver Seats
T-Top Seals and Trim
Front Air Shocks
Plastic Bumper Repaint
