Default 1997 S-10 help.

Hello, i am new to this forum, and just bought me a 1997 S-10 base model. I truck has a leak on the driver rear break line, right before it connects to the rubber flex line to the drum. I was just wondering how long the line is from the master cylinder to the flex line, and what is the difficulty in changing it? I am fairly knowledgeable about cars. I have owned two civics, and i am a decent mechanic. Also, I have been looking at getting new headlight bulbs but it says 9005 or 9006, how could it be different? There is only room for one bulb. Sorry if thats a stupid question, just a little confused. Do the headlights always come on when the truck is started, or is there a way i can turn them off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You just need to look at the bulb that you have... Usually your existing bulbs will have the part number stamped on them. If you are going by a maintence manual for your part numbers, it happens sometimes where there will be two different part numbers because they changed something mid year.
I have a 1996 S-10 and the driving lights do come on whenever you start it up... they are not headlights, even though they kind of look like it. There is no way to shut that off, and honestly it doesn't hurt anything... just helps people see ya coming :-) Just make sure that the headlight switch is off... I have done that a few times because I am so used to seeing lights in front lol.
As for the brake line, if you call up your local parts store they should be able to pull the part off the shelf for you to measure, and some (Autozone in particular) can print out installation instructions for you as well. I believe it is pretty straight forward, but I haven't done it myself (yet) so I can't say for sure. Good luck!

Ah, so that's why it keeps showing 2 bulbs then. As for the brake line, don't they not usually have pre measured metal brake lines? But how much do you think a shop will charge for replacing the brake line? That might be one thing I don't wanna do. Thanks for the info Haysmommie.

If it is brake line, not brake hose, most DIY stores (Autozone, O'Rielly, Napa etc.) carry straight line in different sizes... you just have to match the legnth to what you need and bend it to shape. A lot of parts stores rent out the tubing bender, but if not, it's a relatively cheap tool. As for quoting shop prices, it really depends on where you live and what shop you go to. Here most shops charge between $50-$80 per hour, plus parts and the dealerships are around $80-100 per hour. It honestly should be a quick and easy job. Best thing to do is just get under it and trace the line from one end to the other and see what all it takes to get it out. As long as the majority of the line is visible it shouldn't be bad at all... just a matter of unscrewing one end, then the other and installation would be the reverse ;-)

*if you have a second vehicle to get to the store, take the line off and bring it in to match.
