Unhappy 2000 S10 Wired AC ON on Defog

My AC runs when i have my Windshield Defoger seting on so I cant run it for then a few mins before it frezzes the ac out. Umm How can i fix this. And on a side note what is the engine supposed to be idleing at when the ac is on mine is at 1200 *850 off*

Your A/C is supposed to run on defog. When the ambient temp is below 35deg F it won't though. You just need to turn your temp setting higher. This is done to remove moisture from the air that you are blowing on th windshield. Kind of like a dehumidifier if you will.

You idle speed should be about the same with the ac on. The IAC is supposed to compensate for the extra load to keep the idle the same.

Orly Thats odd? Never had a car or truck do that before? So it will turn of at 35 deg f right and if it doesnt?

The compressor is also set up to cycle on/off with the defrost because the system needs to be run periodically to keep the seals and o-rings lubricated. But who's going to run the a/c system when it's cold? So they tied it to a function they know you will use in cold weather..defrost

Yeah mine in my 2000 is not cycleing on and off but the system is new? Yeah idk i live in texas i really dont get that cold the only reason why it bothers me is when the ac is on it idels at 1000-1200 rpm its wired?
