Default 4x4 not engaging

98 Blazer with 4.3 (4dr). When I push the button I can here a clicking sound coming from glovebox area but no telltale clunk of transfer case engaging. When driving in 2-Hi all three lights on 4x4 switch sometimes blink. Pretty sure will only make 'clicking' sound if I try to engage 4-Hi in neutral. This is older model with 2hi/4hi/4low......no awd option. Any suggestions/info is greatly appreciated.

My son's 2K S-10 Blazer will no engage the front axle.
I replaced the vacuum control switch on trans. case
[little tough to do, I removed front drives shaft to open things up a little ]
The switch was bad, and there was a pinhole or small leak in the vacuum line going to that switch. I replaced the vacuum switch, then took the font right side axle half/shaft out. Then to the gear assembly where things happen.
I had this;

Natty, I was having issues with my 03 S10 not wanting to go into 4wd. I checked the control module behind the passenger side kick board, applied some dielectric grease to the connections and like magic, no more issues. It's the easiest possible fix to try before you go any further. good luck.
