you should have a full mechanical fuel pump bolted to the drivers side of the block . i have a 1985 s-10 with a carburetor and that is were it is , i can see it through the wheel well .you should only have a relay if it has fuel injection and a electric pump in the tank that you could hear run when you turn on the key .

ok thanks. yea i didn't hear the pump purge so i thought it was the relay, but if i have a full mechanical pump i guess there's no purge to be heard. so how can i check fuel delivery?

well if you have any body to help you take the fuel line off at the carb and put a long rubber fuel line on the fuel line long enough to reach a coffie can make shure the the battery is charged up good .hold the hose into the can and turn the engine over at 25-30 second intervuls watch to see if any comes out of the hose ,of corse make sure there is gas in the tank .it may or may not pick up a prime if it's been a while.
if not and you have a air compresser put a nozzel with a rag around it put a little air in the tank to help fill the lines .if all else fails you might have a bad fuel pump .
