95 Blazer started missing on the highway
I've been searching the internet and cant find any really good information on the subject.. most of my car experience is from mustang performance, so i don't really know much about common Chevy problems..
I was driving down the highway going 65-70 when all of a sudden the blazer starts shaking (like its missing) and losing power.. so i put it in neutral and it basically smooths out.. I merge over to the right and off a exit ramp into a pilot station.. I start it back up and start pulling plug wires.. the first 2 on the passenger side that i pulled made the expected snapping noise when i unplugged them.. the when i unplugged the third one (cylinder 2): no snapping noise, but the engine smoothed out (almost as if it was running perfectly)..
i figured it was either a plug or a plug wire.. so this morning i put all new plugs and all new plug wires in it.. after a hour of so long endeavor replacing these, cussing at engineers and such.. i finally get them all back together and its still chugging.. only now when i unplug cylinder 2 it makes a snapping noise and the engine still runs poorly... however NOW i can unplug cylinder 1 and the engine smooths out..
so i do a little test.. i pull the wire to cylinder 1 and i plug one of my old plugs into it and start the engine.. it will run fine when that cylinder 1 wire doesn't have a load, but as soon as i ground the plug (creating a spark) the engine starts acting like its missing..
MY thought is that i have a weak coil or something wrong with the distributor points/rotor.. i only think that because its seemingly acting like running 5 plugs is fine, but 6 plugs is to much of a load..
i would like to know what you guys think..
Thank you very much in advance
