Default 95 jimmy

Hey everyone!
I have just recently bought a 1995 jimmy... on the way home from picking it up the head gaskit popped... got that fixed and 5 days later the bottom end went out of the engine... Im a honda guy and dont know anything abotu these trucks but I have been told that you need a engine from a 1995 to make it a direct bolt in with no mods needed... is this true? I ask this because I have found a 1994 s10 with the 4.3 in it for cheap! Will this swap work for me or am i going to be screwing around with all sorts of crap?

95 was the transition from the first generation vortec to the current version vortec motors. as far as the 95 you just bought, does it say VORTEC in orange lettering (maybe black) right on top of the motor in big letters, or does it say vortec on a black, plastic square box on the top, towards the back of the motor? does the motor resemble the first pic, or the second?

the '94 vortec should resemble the first photo, in which case won't be a direct swap. wiring, computer and all will have to be swapped. much easier to check wrecking yards or craigslist for a motor for the 95 or newer s10's.

anything can be done. it's just a matter of how much work do you want to do? motor/trans, harness, computer, fuse box/panel, fuel pump for sure, maybe even the tank. if you don't mind doin that much work...
