Default 96 S10,auto,4L60E-Need help please!

Please,-no comments or guesses from idiots!
I have read through the threads and found my trans problem and it's given solution:
PROBLEM:"Transmission does not shift automatically, only manually."
SOLUTION:"Swap in a known-good PCM, check wiring, check other sensors such as VSS and TPS"

-I am going through a rough time financially and will have to do the work myself so i am going to further explain what's going on in hopes of pinpointing the the problem better..

The fluid level is fine, new trans filter, and electrical connection clean and dry.
The only code showing is for an O2 sensor.
No fuses are blown.
The speedometer and odometer work fine.
When braking from drive(at a stop sign)-trans kicks out of gear, and must start manually back in 1st.

Must manually start from first gear, get up to about 20mph or so,LET OFF THE GAS,shift manually into 2nd,Wait a second for the gear to kick in,then re-apply the gas,(and so on when upshifting)-The reason for letting off the gas when manually upshifting is, untill you feel the gear engage,if you don't wait for the gear to engage and apply the gas,you will hear a loud high pitch "groan" (from the torque converter?)-Until you let off the gas.

Again,i know the "textbook" answer, but it's multiple choice and i'm hoping someone can narrow it down.
Please help if you can.
