Default ABS code reading

The ABS light is lit on my 96 S10, and the Chilton manual I have lists trouble codes, but it doesn't suggest any way to read the codes short of taking it to a dealer. Is there any scanner I can use to read these codes, or any "secret" method to extract them? I have an older reader, but it isn't showing anything...

I believe your 96 has an OBD II computer. I found a scan tool for $100.00 that will scan engine codes/body codes/abs codes. It's called Blue Driver. You down load the app to your cell phone and then place the sensor into the diagnostic port under the dash. Connect to the sensor with Bluetooth and your all set to go. Gives codes and most likely repairs. Whats really nice is it gives live data. If you have someone else drive for you you can look at numerous sensors will the vehicle is being driven.
