Default Envoy HID Headllight Modification (98-01)

If you have factory HID headlights on your Envoy/Bravada and the bulb and ballast go out you find out real quick that the only available replacements are from GM and you have to buy a new ballast/HID Bulb because of design change. The cost from GM is over $1,000 dollars for the set. If you want to keep your factory HID system I have a mucn lower cost alternative and still be OEM equipment. I have purchased factory Bulb/Ballast to keep my GMC Diamond Edition factory HID lights operational but will never again. Below is what I purchased (Mostly From Ebay)

1. Philips D1S Bulb Xenstart ($50.00 ea) Ebay. 2 ea
2. Philips Xenstart ballast (Cadilac <NOBR style="FONT-FAMILY: inherit; COLOR: darkgreen; FONT-SIZE: 100%; FONT-WEIGHT: normal" id=itxt_nobr_26_0>XLR</NOBR>) Same Ballast as what you get from GM. (Price Varies) 2 ea
3. Pair of D1S Bulb Holders. ($30.00)
4. Pair of D1S Cables 49CM (SUV Lights.com) $75.00 for a pair plus shipping

Note: The only difference with the ballast assy. from GM/Ebay is that GM provides an adapter plate that will mount the ballast using the same mountin screw locations as the original and provides a short extension for the wiring harness. Part number/Spec for the ballast is the same.

The key is mounting the D1S bulb holders to the back of the headlight assemblies without damaging or modifing the headllight assy. I made a right left adapter from piece of sheet metal. The ballast can be mounted in the same location as the original. PIC's to follow later today.

Below are pics of the GM OEM replacement bulb, ballast with mounting plate and adapter plug. Using a ballast of off ebay you would not get the mounting plate or the plug adapter. But the ballasts are exactly the same ballast. This bulb and ballast is over $1000.00 from GM. You can get buy with around $900.00 if you buy the complete headlight assembly that includes bulb and ballast. I can not figure why it is less expensive to buy the complete assy then just the replacement bulb/ballasst.
