Default Erratic Speedo

The speedometer on my 1985 S-10 Blazer has recently started jumping and reading higher than actual speed. Can this be attributed to the speedo cable, or does the speedo head need service?

The speedo cable may just need to be lubricated. This is the easiest and cheapest fix if it works.

Thanks "oldchevy". As you probably know, getting to the back of the speedo head on an S-10 is a bit of a challenge. I was thinking I might pull the cluster and use one of those computer air sprays to blow the dust out of the speedo head and maybe put a drop of oil on it where the cable connects. And of course pull out the cable and lube it. Do you see anything wrong with that plan?
