No Start, Intermittent, 1998 S-10, High Mileage
I have a high mileage '98 S-10 truck, 4 cyl., stick. 251,000 miles. In severe weather, hot or cold, it won't start. Fortunately I can drift start it. Nothing, nothing, happens when the key is turned although battery is good---horn will honk loud. Battery is good, starter replaced, starter solenoid replaced, clutch interlock replaced. I'm thinking that it is the ignition key module in the steering column. Probably worn out or clearance too great on hot or cold days. It has probably gone through 100,000 cycles. Sound right?

Crank sensor is a big problem with the S-10, as well as the fuel pump (intermittently) and the distributor (also intermittently). Another culprit is aftermarket distributor caps. This you want to buy from the dealer only because the others short out between the coil connection and the number 4 cylinder cross over. I hope this helps.
*edit*: The distributor itself has a screen that collects moisture and will prevent starting in humid situations. The replacement part (best from Car Quest price wise) will fix it along with the plastic base plate.
