Default noisy ac compressor

my ac compressor has suddenly started making a horrible noise as the pulley turns so I guess it is on its way out or maybe a bearing has bust or something, is it likely to seize up or is it ok to drive for a few days whilst I organise a replacement please

Does it make the noise all the time or just when the A/C is on. If it does it all the time then it could be the clutch or the belt is loose. If it does it only when the A/C is on then it is probably the compressor.

belt seems tight, black powdered carbon type residue has been coming out from behind the bit with the pulley.

having trouble finding a replacement, my blazer - rhd - has a Delphi 1136619 which nowhere seems to have now, my suburban - also rhd - had its front compressor replaced in 2003 with a 1136519 which dimensionally i.e. position of the 4 bolts looks as though it will fit and the fitting for the ac pipes looks the same so I might just take that one off to see if it will fit and then get one of those since they seem more readily available over here.

ok the one off the sub fitted and the blazer is operational, won't need the sub for a couple of weeks by which time the replacement should have made it across the pond and I can swap them back and put the new one on the blazer.

have to say getting the belt back on was a bit of a pita.

couple of annoying inconsistencies, all the bolts on the blazer compressor are 13mm including the pipe fitting one whereas on the sub the pipe fitting is 15mm, the belt tensioner on the sub is 15mm and the blazer 16mm, designers lets have both engines the same please
