I have a 1997 s-10 and recently developed a problem getting out of park. While attending a class at the local community college I spoke with one of the automotive instructors and after describing the problem he told me that the parking pawl was most likely broken. I've done most of the repairs on this truck myself but have not been able to find much information on the parking pawl such as location or how to repair. Any help would be appreciated.

 

Is it hard to pull it down out of park or does it just not come out of park when you pull it out of park?

 

ya it started out difficult to shift out of or back into park but now its stuck in park. Can't get it to pull down at all.
