Default rebuilt engine won't fire #1 cyl

Hi: I have a 94 s10 pickup w/ a 2.2L engine. My #1 cyl won't fire, the manifold port is essentially cold. the plug fires when it's removed and gas vapor comes out of the spark plug hole. I know this is improbabl, that's why I need advice.
More info: The engine and head are newly rebuilt. The coils, plug wires and and plugs are new, The injectors are switched around but #1 is always bad. the header and manifold are original. The engine was doing the same thing before I rebuilt it but it had rust in the #1 cyl and no compression. now it's at 85 -90 lbs on a questionable test gauge.

Sounds to me like you need to do a wet leak down test with a known-to-be-true compression gauge not a questionable guage..

thanks. I put a gauge and new plug on the list. #1 not firing is more concern because the other cyl's pressures are reasonably close even if the gauge is off a bit.

OK I found it. The moral here is before you pull the engine always check the plugs (even if they're new because they might not be the right ones for the car).
