Default s-10 engine question (91' in a 89')

i have a 1989 s-10 and i am looking to put a 1991 engine in it. can this work? the 89 is a 4cyl 2.5L and so is the 1991. can this be done?

it shoud be a staright across swap,are the tranny's the same?

the 89 is a 5-speed. i believe the 91 is a 5-speed as well. thanks for the advice hopefully it will work.
