Default S-10 Lights Won't Turn On?

Hi! I ran into a problem with my 2000 Chevy Blazer and found this forum that can hopefully help. Today as I got in my car after work (it was still very light outside) I noticed the blue high beam "icon" on my dash showed my brights were on when I turned on the truck. I could see via the reflection of the vehicle in front of me that they were in fact OFF but every time I clicked in the arm on the left of the wheel (haha whatever that's called: it also triggers my blinkers, which work and my windshield wipers which work) that should trigger it on and off, nothing happened. I decided to just drive home. The icon automatically went off within a few blocks, then back on about 10 minutes later, and off again by the time I got home.

I went out tonight (in the dark) to see if the low beams turned on when I turned the car on (they should automatically turn on when the engine starts) but nothing happened. The high beam icon was once again lit up on the dash but there were no lights on (neither high nor low beams) and even when I clicked the handle to the left on and off, still nothing happened.

I'm not sure why this happened all of a sudden but it's frustrating because the Blazer obviously can't be used at night until it's fixed and I apologize in advance for the lack of proper terms but I am not very car savvy and badly need to drive after dark.

I know that this sounds stupid but just by chance did you try the actual headlight switch instead of relying on your daytime running lights. My 1999 suburban has the daytime running lights also but they stopped working when I start the truck but my regular headlights still work when I turn on the headlights with the headlight switch.

Trust me, nothing that you can suggest would be stupid!! I'm very car challenged, haha.

I did in fact try the switch though, and nothing happened. I turned it to the on position with no luck and then tried the brights again and nothing.

Oddly enough, 2 days ago suddenly it seemed like it was working properly like before and then my dad (who owned a body shop for 25 years) ordered some part that replaced the headlight switch on the dash...and it hasn't been faulty since (knock on wood). Because it was working the morning before he changed it though, we still aren't sure if that actually fixed the problem or not. We'll give it a few more days before we feel comfortable we won't get stuck somewhere at night without our lights.
