Default S10 tensioner

I changed my tensioner on my 1996 s10 with a 2.2 4 cylinder because it was making a rattling noise. But the new one is making the same noise it looks to me that when the engine is cold with the a/c running that it is hitting the pulley on the crank can anyone tell me if I can put a spacer between the block and the tensioner to stop this noise because it sounds like the engine is about to come apart until it warms up

Did you also change the belt? The belt may stretched or you have the wrong belt on there that might be a bit too long. Adding a spacer will put the tensioner out of alignment with the other pulleys.
