S10 will not shift correctly

S10 will not shift correctly
2000 Chevy S10
2.2L 2WD LS
Need some help! So after replacing my neutral safety switch, my truck will not shift right. The colomn shifter could be bad because it will change gears but only down to neutral. But the thing is it doesn't feel like it, it's loose and you can't feel that "click" when it normally goes in gear. Trying to go into Drive 3rd 2nd and 1st feels like the shift cable is stuck or something, and it just does not want to move or pop into gear. And I made sure the pin in the transmission mounting bracket was facing the transmission.
Also the car only starts some times. I've had to take the shifter cable bracket off of the switch and manually turn the transmission to park with the "shifting bolt" that comes out of the transmission, and through the switch, that connects to the shift cable. When I try to shift it will go into reverse but not any farther down, and it won't go back up into park.
So I'm thinking the switch is bad and is not allowing the truck to shift properly. Or somthing is bad in the colomn. or possibly a bad shift cable.
Any ideas?
