Cool Timing 4.3l x

I just changed the head gaskets on a 1996 s10 4.3l x code v6 go to crank it up and it fires for about 10 sec then loses it and dies, I didn't mark the distributor when I pulled it out So now I am pretty much guessing where to put it, can anyone help me set the timing so I can get this thing running?!?!

well you said it runs for about 10 seconds then dies? it wouldnt be the timing if it was running first then died, you forgot to plug something in that the computer needs to help the engine run like maybe a MAP sensor or the distributor sensor. recheck all your conncections and lines. the distributor cannot be adjusted but you can only get the distributor in two ways: 0 degrees or 180 out, so if it isnt popping or backfiring then your timing is fine, but there is also the firing order, i cant tell you how many times ive mixed up wires on the distributor cap so recheck and recheck again because its taken me a few times before to get it right.

Turn the crank till you have it at DTC on #1

Then install the distributor with #1 plug wire facing
#1 cylinder

Also make sure have everything harness related plugged in and you have the spark plug wires in their proper firing order
