I did an S10 V8 swap. I put an 1985 350 into an 87 S10 with a TH400 and also put in a 96 Ford Explorer Rear end with the 3.73L gears. It has a B&M z-gate shifter and the B&M shiftercable and brackets.

When I have it in Park... everything works as advertised... then I put it in reverse and the wheels drive FWD and then move it to Neutral... and same thing. Then Drive 1 and 2 all drive FWD. I had the rear end in the air and I was told that since no weight was on the back the wheels will drive in neutral. but what is going on with Reverse??


Also, I checked the shifter cable several times hoping it was that and it seems to be working fine.


What I really want to know is if anybody has heard of this and have an idea of what is going on... ie: will I be able to do a quick tranny rebuild and it be fine or does it need all new gears or what.

Now that I think of it I forgot to hook up the modulator vacuume line... I know that's supposed to aid in shifting... would that be a cause of a problem like this?

Talked to a transmission shop and he said my clutch plates were bad... and a simple rebuild would fix the problem...

Just in case anybody has this problem
