Exclamation Fuel delivery system problem

I have a 1988 c1500 single cab truck with around 70k miles. Im not sure if this is the right spot to post about my truck but its the closest matching. My truck has no shortage of problems, transmission leaks in 3 places, power steering fluid leak, engine oil leak, and now a fuel problem but i plan to fix all of it since its serves me as good experience. the two main problems that concern me are the transmission shifts are very spaced out, when i step on it, it "shifts like a manual" in the sense that it "disconects" the power from the engine and reconects several seconds later. ive had it for a while now and the way i drive it im not surprised. one day though, it got really bad and i decided its time to fix but as soon as i got home it didint move from that spot, it didint start up. it cranks and ive checked the spark plugs, they all fire. its getting spark and its getting air because i checked the housing and filter, which brings me to gas. ive checked the relay and im not sure if i did it right, but with the air filter housing off i smell gas when it cranks, so i concluded that its not the issue. since i smell gas, i estimated that nothing is wrong with the electrical side of it and something is either wrong with the filter or the fuel pump just gave out. before i get into removing the truck bed (to do other matinance to, not just the fuel problem) i wanted to check if anyone else has had this fuel problem before or something similar, and if they resolved it and have any tips or advice. im currently in college at lincoln tech for auto tech so i have access to all data, but i havent found anything similar in all data. anything helps thank you.
