Default 2008 chevy suburban excessive oil loss

my suburban just started loosing oil. 3 or more quarts per 3k
looking for some thoughts before I go to the mechanic
whats been the best fix for this 5.3 l engine

Is it leaking oil or burning oil? Either way it is excessive.

It's burning out some how
Very little signs of leaking underneath

theres a bulletin on oil consumption in the 5.3s that includes installing an AFM shield on the oil pan and an updated valve cover, worse case scenario replacing piston(s). If you haven't had the updated valve cover installed I would start there and see if it changes anything, or pull the spark plugs and check for fouling
