Exclamation Lift question

I have a 2012 Chevy silverado 1500 4x4 5.3L V-8. I was thinking of doing a 6 inch bds coil over lift. I was told that if I lift it I should regear the rear end so it does not ruin it. Now is that something that is a standard to do when lifting a truck? Or do some people just do it to do it? An what size tire an rim should I go with if I choose to do that lift? I asked the guys at the shop where the lift would be done if that's something that should be done an they said na it should be good but I'd like other opinions. Instead of going off of there word an paying more money in the end. Thank you for your responses

At 6 inches suspension, depending on what gear ratio your truck came pre-equipped with, you usually don't need to do a gear ratio change. However if after you lift it you find that your gas mileage and power have suffered too much because of the lift, you can re-gear it. Just keep in mind you have to do both front and rear diffs. Be careful with lifting a truck with factory warranty left on it. Lift kits can VOID your factory warranty. Seen it a thousand times.

Default No Cut Diffs

I'm pretty much in the same boat.

Been considering a lift kit in my 2011 Silverado. As in my case, the previous post mentioned voiding of warranty. That's why I'm holding off for now.

Anyways, the reason for this post... aka my 2 cents.

From researching Lift Kits. Found a company that took the time to develop all the bends to make the Lift fit, w/o having to cut / grind, to install the lift.

Company is McGaughy's. (sp). They have a 7 - 9" lift for my Silverado @ about $1,700.

Hope this helps.

Keep us in the loop of what you do.

Re-gearing is for the larger tires thatcome after the lift. Lifting alone doesnt need re-gearing
