Default 2017 Vacuum Pump 'recall'

My 2017 Silverado has been having weird brake issues. When pushing the brake pedal down a couple times in a row while creeping, it would get soft and not brake sometime. Look up "recall vacuum pump Silverado" on the web. Anyway.... long story short, I just got a new vacuum pump on GM's dime due to this issue. The service rep at the dealership treated me like I was trying to rob them or something. They got mad when I called it a "recall" and snapped back with "it's NOT a recall! It's a factory extended warranty on this part!" Not sure why this is such a sore subject, but I was treated like garbage the whole time I was at the dealer. You will have to pursue this yourself. They won't send you a notice, which is a huge fail on GM's part. Also..... my #5 ignition coil went out a few days ago. AND my engine oil was very low without any evidence of leaking or burning. This is a mystery to me, but I have read that the oil leak can be related to the vacuum pump. I have 45K miles on this truck, and I treat it very well. I'm very disappointed with this product, the company and service at present. My family has been GM truck owners for 4 generations now (My G-grandpa's 5 window 1950 is still running). Hopefully this thread will help someone else out if they are experiencing brake issues, as well as knowing what to expect from the dealership. Not sure what truck I'm going to purchase next. Any Tundra fans out there?

Hi Cap,
Don't feel badly, just about all manufacturers have problems., including Tundra.
Depending on location and circumstances , you might get better service from a different dealership.
Whether warranty or not, the service dept. carries the dealership through tough times when sales are hurting.. Smart and wise service managers will usually try to accommodate a customer or potential customer , it looks good and helps pay the bills, lol.
Suggest trying a different dealership, they are out there and usually willing to help, you just have to find them.

It’s pathetic that businesses all operate as if they’re insurance companies nowadays, the same legal system that fought to the death to protect corporate entities from liability even despite gross negligence is sitting back collecting dividends without any threat of having to navigate litigating but rather negotiating terms with other lawyers(counterproductive common ground), but that kind of protection comes with furthering savage business tactics and development of proprietary components requiring patronage to their overpriced service centers and warranty extensions. I have a 2017 Cruze that had a new engine put in it with under 50k miles after it locked up, was given no explanation as to why it happened, at 85k miles I suddenly have a fast oil leak with no smoke or visible signs and a sound similar to valve tapping but traced it back to the break assist vacuum pump attached to the exhaust camshaft, it fails and breaks into chunks of metal that do catastrophic damage if they fail under the wrong conditions. Even though GM has recalled certain models with specific engine/transmission combos to replace the vacuum pump there is nothing anywhere online warning people to look out for the most likely symptoms of its failure or accepting any fault for what is obviously a design flaw, it seems their excuse for why it happens is customers not using the specified dexos oil but that doesn’t explain my situation and is likely just a way to refuse warranty work if someone can’t prove with some kind of evidence that they used the GM approved oil and never went 1 mile past recommended oil change intervals…savage. As far as Tundras go I don’t know about how the new V6 will hold up(I fear it will be like the ecoboost F-150 that I attribute with creating a market for the Godzilla 7.3) but my father drives a 2012 with 240k miles on it and it runs/drives like a new vehicle with the added bonus of being made(assembled) in the USA and that’s at least something, better than my Mexico assembled Chevrolet, fwiw… we’re living in crazy times!
