Hey everyone.


New to this forum, and to Chevys, and to cargo vans.


Recently acquired a 2002 Express, and am trying to get caught up on some deferred maintenance and fixing little bits. One of those is the vent window on the side door. It has the little flip out latch that is supposed to cam over to close. Mine doesn't close all the way, the window is loose on the rubber seal.


I pulled the plastic inner door liner and it looks like someone has tried to fix this problem before. The latch itself is moving when you try to cam it over. It looks like it's held into the body with rivers, and those are moving around so the window seal will not get tight.


Any ideas on how to tighten the mounting of the latch? Not sure if there are oversized rivets or something that has a different way to tighten

You might want to try drilling out the rivets, installing riv-nuts, and bolting it on.

I haven't ever used rivnuts before, but they look like just what I need. Thank you for that. I have a kit on order and will hopefully have some good news to report when the weekend is over.

I'm sure I'll be back with more questions if I cannot find answers here already on the forum.

Wanted to follow up here.

The rivnuts were a perfect fix. The hardest part was getting the old ones out. One drilled OK but the other had a bit of the head sticking out so drilling was a pain. Used a step bit on the holes and a kit off of Amazon. Tightened down really nice and now the vent window latches tightly.
