EGR Cooler Failure

EGR Cooler Failure
We have a 2018 Chevy Equinox diesel that has been owned since 2020 and 31000 miles. We have had two problems with the vehicle since purchased that GM can't figure out. At this point we have 100200 miles on the vehicle.
1st problem. When coming to a stop the vehicle will sit there and surge back and forth. It only happens once a month or so. The engine RPM's will go up and down about 100. If the car is put in neutral the surging is still there
but not as severe as the vehicle isn't in gear. Put the car back in gear and the problem still exists. Only item turned on is the heater, defrost is not on so A/C should not be active. Turn the heater completely off and the problem
goes away. Lately the vehicle will start surging up and down 100 RPM's on initial start up. The problem goes away after about 5 stops or so. The problem will never happen when we can go by a dealer and never happens when the
vehicle is at the dealer. Explained to two dealers and they have no idea what is going on.
2nd Problem. The EGR cooler has thrown a code since we purchased the vehicle. GM has replaced the cooler twice under warranty. The third time the light came on was around 90000 miles. The dealer replaced the cooler again
and gave us a big bill for the repair. Less then a year later and 9000 miles the engine is throwing a code for the EGR cooler again. We have had three case numbers with GM on this vehicle. No one can figure out what the real problem
is and why the EGR cooler keeps throwing a code. There has to be something else happening to cause these problems then just the EGR cooler. We have another case number with GM but we are told any diagnostics is ours
to pay since the vehicle is out of warranty. I am really ticked as GM should have solved all the problems under the warranty period. Does anyone know what is going on so I can make GM repair the vehicle? Does anyone know if
there is a class action lawsuit against GM for these vehicles? I really like the vehicle but dislike the way GM is handling these problems.
