Default Dealer installed alarm

I have a 89 Suburban with a dealer installed Audiovox alarm. It’s range is near zero, I literally have to be pointing the key fob into the opening between the hood and fender . Any thoughts on how to widen this range?

I sure did. I have decided it’s got another quirk I didn’t catch at first. It operates correctly when I more or less point the fob at the gap between the hood and fender. Turns the alarm on, locks the doors, turns the alarm off BUT does not unlock the doors. So it’s got no range and does not unlock itself. This Burban is in near mint shape and I really don’t want it taken apart any to install a new alarm.

Hmm....never thought in terms of an antenna. I wonder what it would look like? I don’t see anything that is obviously an antenna but that right there just might be the problem. Thank you!

The antenna, will be piece of wire, likely black that is about a foot long. If possible let it dangle or lay it out straight, avoid bundling it up.
