Default No in line fuel filter? What?

2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 LS 5.3L and I can not find a fuel filter! I heard of a screen of some sort but this is sorta Greek to me but highly capable of doing the work. What is this suspected important piece to the system and where the heck is it? I replaced my fuel pump about 2 wks ago, in fact I have replaced the entire evap system components but I didn't have any knowledge of a screen or sock or whatever I was also suppose to handle at time of fuel pump install. Is this a part that needs to be cleaned or does it have to be replaced? I need a diagram or some info that can help me, please. In simple terms, like I stated this is all Greek to me. Thank you!!

Most vehicles, not just Chevrolet's, have been replacing the inline fuel filters with the fuel filter on the fuel pump. I don't like it, but at least my 98 K-1500 Chevy pickup has an inline fuel filter.

To be completely honest, I don't like it one bit that fuel filters are not standard equipment in many cars. You are aware Different DIY home improvement recipes and designs should come to mind. I occasionally wish to learn more about the history of diy do it yourself culture throughout the ages. Then I found this https://www.littleloveliesbyallison....hout-the-ages/ link. And I learned everything I needed to know about it in this post. If you're interested in learning more, you may use this post as a resource.

Understood, but GM isn't the only manufacturer doing this.
