Default 05 Crew Cab 1500 Z71 Auto-Transmission

I have a 2005 Z71 Crew Cab 1500 Auto Tranny, and just today (it has 125,000 miles on it) I went to put it from Park to Drive and it wouldnt engage, it wouldnt engage into 3rd either (it would engage to Reverse and Neutral, go into 4wd/auto and back into 2wd) It then would engage in 2nd/1st and I would get the truck going and it would be making a very loud "grinding" noise and if I let off the gas the grinding would go away, but as soon as I put it back on the grinding noise would return. I would get the truck going and have it in 2nd gear and be able to put it up to 3rd and it would shift into 3rd that way but it wont engage into 3rd if I put the selector on 3rd, and if I try to go from 3rd to Drive (4th) it will not go into 4th. The grinding noise is there whenever I have my foot on the gas pedal and am going. What is the problem? Broken bands? electrical problems?

so again it will engage into Park, Reverse, Neutral, Second and First when the selector is on it

Will not engage into Drive/3rd.

If I put the selector on 1st or 2nd I can get the truck moving forward with a grinding noise but once I get it up to 30 mph + and I put the selector from 2nd to 3rd it will engage into 3rd gear, but I can not put it the selector from 3rd to Drive, and if I do it will not engage into 4th gear.

thanks in advance for the help!
Brent

huh. it kind of sounds like the gear selector is getting mad at you. obviously the grinding is from the planetary gears not slowing down to switch. like in a manny when you dont use the clutch and grind to fit lol. but... maybe the band for that set of planetary gear is finally poopin out. because it rules out the shift solenoids because its grinding not sloppy shifting. so... seems like clutches on the inside are goin along with maybe the bands. that sucks man. check your tranny fluid. does it smell like burnt icky? wats the color. if its like red then the fluid is in pretty good shape. if the fluid is like darker, and sparkly... oh boy. let us know man.

sorry should have remembered to tell you about the fluid, the fluid is fine, there isnt anything wrong with it. I dont know if it would be the selector do to the grinding noise I am getting from it. Am I going to have to pull it and rebuild it?
