Default 1996 silverado no tail lights

Howdy, just picked up my first ever p/u from the original owner in the pheonix area, so its in good shape as in NO RUST like we get up north! It appears that I have no tail lights, I checked/replaced the fuse and both lights still out. Before I start hunting for a broken or pinched wire I thought I'd ask if there may have been some characteristic problem with this truck in as far as maybe an area where the wire pinches/breaks. Anyone know what color wire is for the tail lights...it looks to be brown?

It is a silverado z71 4x4, off road package with a 5.7 vortec..not sure about the transmission. Any particular areas I should keep an eye on? Thanx!..Dan

I have a 98 silverado same everything but the year, and i just went through the same headache. I dont know if our problems are similar or not, but my driver side break lamp didnt work, or the turn signal. On the passenger side everything worked but the reverse light. I replaced bulbs, checked all the fuses... with no luck. Finally I just ordered new L.E.D lights and replaced everything. Luckily it worked. I think the problem lied within the brake assembly board where all the lights were mounted to. Ill post some pics to show the results
