2002 Silverado - side window scratched/etched
I recently purchased this 2002 Silverado, and noticed vertical scratches actually etched/grooved into the outside of the drivers side window glass. It's evident the scratches occur with raising/lowering the window (manual crank).
Due to the depth of the scratches I have already had the window replaced, but does anyone have any thoughts as to what else I may need to do to prevent this?
Could it require a new belt weatherstrip/window scraper seal? If so, how are these installed?
Thanks in advance for any and all help!

The outer sealing strip can usually be replaced by lowering the window, removing the side view mirror then lifting up at the front corner of the sealing strip, pull up toward the back until removed from the channel.
Most likely what happened is the person played in the mud or the desert a lot and didn't wash the vehicle after playing. I know, I did that to my H3, which front driver's and passenger side windows need replacement and new sealing strips.

Thanks f5fstop, that would make sense, as this was a government vehicle from 2002-2012, spent its life in northern New Mexico, and probably never washed!
I'm assuming the installation would be the reverse of the removal.
Thanks.....good info.

Yes reverse for install.
From the service manual....
Important: The outer belt sealing strip seals between the inner and outer door panels and the window at the belt line. The outer sealing strip is replaceable. Do not remove the inner sealing strip, because the strip is attached to the glass run channel.
Removal
•Lower the window.
•Remove the outside mirror.
•Remove the outer sealing strip from the door, lifting up on the forward end in order to unhook the rear of the strip from the window run channel.
Installation Procedure
•Hook the rear end of the sealing strip into the window run channel. Lower and press the strip into place.
•Install the outside mirror. Refer to Outside Rearview Mirror Replacement .
•Raise the window
