It may seem odd but it's one way to keep the costs down, so It wouldn't matter to me. I am not a young man by any means anymore, but it looks pretty cool. Still, I would wish to have locking hubs and a full manual floor shifter (which my 98 K1500 does),. But there is nothing new about AWD, and it might be better for people not used to doing real 4x4 driving.

Heck when I was a much younger man, Chevy pickups had two headlights, while GMC's had four and all glass no plastic.Most had no tachometer either, or optional. Even A/C was an option, but fast becoming standard in cars. and then pickups..

You wish to know more about the "good old days" of car and pickups, or do you recall them yourself? Here is a list of things that are best left in the past:

I was a young man in the 1960's to 1980's period of my life, so this is what all cars had that were or are no longer in use, or replaced by better systems:

1. Automatic Chokes
2 Carburetors
3.Leaded gasoline (folwed spark plugs like mad)
4.Fuel tanks mounted in cab of pickups behind seats.
5.Point-style ignition systems.
6.Leaky engine-mounted fuel pumps
7. Four-way drum brakes.
8. No, or optional seat belts and/or shoulder belt. (my 1970 Chevy Nova had both)
9. Smog pumps. (everyone here knows I hate those contraptions)
10. Automatic transmissions (no air-cooled fluid and they would not last that long)
11. Cheap fuel hoses that caused many engine fires, if not changed out on time.
12. Did I say Carburetors? Leaked fuel. Float bowl would often flood motor out.

This was all commonplace on all vehicles, not simply GM vehicles before electronic ignition systems were available, then the fuel injection systems, which I love.
