700r4 help
My dad has recently aquired a 2001 chevy silverado pick up with a 4.8 hooked up to 700r4 transmission. The transmission wasnt installed in the truck when he got it so we had to hook everything up. We've replaced the pump, torque converter, filter and fluids but it won't do anything aside from turn the driveshaft slowly at about 6k rpms. Does anyone know what might be causing it to not work? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Okay,
That puts it at or in the transmission.
When I get a basket case like that I always take 'er clear down to parade rest and build it back up. Reason being, you never know what that last guy did to it.
I assume you checked all the clutches and seals while you had that pump out? Did you put in the correct filter?
Put a gauge on it and see if you even have line pressure. If the pressure is zero, problem lies at the filter or pump.

Got good pressure, we let a trans shop put the pump in so we havent seen the inside of the trans. Its got all the correct parts on it or at least it has since we've gotten it. We are just about ready to give up on this thing its been nothing but problems.
Coincidentally do you think a turbo 350 will fit on the 4.8?

Alright,
Pressures up and absolutely no movemnet in ANY of the selector ranges.
I would pull the pan and make sure the manual valve link is in place. If so, I'm bettin' on a bad converter.
Doesn't happen often, but it does happen.
