Unhappy '88 C1500 Smoke on startup?

Hi guys. New to this forum, and I like it, so I decided to register. So I have a 1988 Silverado C1500. 5.7 tbi. 142,xxx miles. It smokes a pretty decent amount on startup. Not talking a little puff, but not a huge cloud either. The color seems to be white and actually kind of thick. If i rev it up or try to accelerate a tad fast right after startup(before it warms up) then it stumbles, and smokes (mostly white with a hint of black smoke) like it is getting too much fuel. (it very well could be, we replaced the fuel pump and filter and cleaned out the fuel injectors several months ago) I know old trucks smoke but it's just annoying. Makes the truck look trashy around friends. My dad and I speculate the smoke to be the valve guides/seals. I know white smoke is from coolant burning, but the coolant level hasn't changed. It uses a small amount of oil too. Any thoughts on a fix for this? Also I'm on a budget, so telling me to pay several hundred dollars at a mechanic shop wouldn't help much.
