Default c1500 transmissions

I have a 94 chevy C1500 I am restoring for my son. It has a 4.3 and automatic transmission, I am going to replace the trans with a used lower mile unit. I have called several salvage yards and they all ask the same thing. "is it an extended cab" yes it is. So my question is, Is the transmission a different length or why does extended matter? From what I know, the drive shafts are usually the only difference. But a lot of people don't know what C and K mean either with these trucks.
Any facts greatly appreciated

There are different extension housings, different output shaft lengths. Also, depending on year and engine, there are subtle differences with the transmission's internal components as well.
